(Kaieteur News) – The High Court has awarded West Bank Demerara man $1.6M worth in compensatory damages for unlawful arrest and detention.
According to court documents seen by this publication, Justice Simone Morris awarded Mikhail Miggins of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara the sum after she determined that his arrest by members of the Guyana Police Force was unlawful and a contravention of his fundamental right not to be deprived of his personal liberty.
The judge found too that Miggin’s detention at the Parfaite Harmonie Police Station from the 4th to 18th November, 2024 was in contravention of his fundamental right not to be deprived of his personal liberty as guaranteed by Article 139 of the Constitution.
