PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has reaffirmed her commitment to construct a Spiritual Baptist secondary school to honour the local community, yesterday citing the religion’s historical evolution, resilience and her own personal experience with the faith.
She did so as she delivered an address at the Moruga Multipurpose Youth and Sport Facility, where many gathered to partake in a planned Spiritual Baptist Liberation Day Thanksgiving Service.
By yesterday morning, Member of Parliament for the area (Moruga/Tableland) Michelle Benjamin had led a procession throughout Moruga’s streets in celebration of the holiday, accompanied by dancers, drumming and song. Benjamin, guided by Spiritual Baptist elders, participated in the table-lighting ceremony—a ritual of thanksgiving.
