An Indian Diaspora Day celebration scheduled for August 1 has been reset to August 8 after public outrage over “disrespect” at this country’s Emancipation Day date by the Indian High Commission to Trinidad and Tobago.
But not before former tourism minister Randall Mitchell wrote a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking an immediate review of the conduct of Indian High Commissioner Dr Pradeep Singh Rajpurohit.
Mitchell called for Rajpurohit to be directed to immediately postpone or reschedule this event to a date that did not conflict with Emancipation Day.
