Opposition MP Camille Robinson-Regis has warned that if parliamentary committees do not sit, it will be because of the “wilful and dangerous” choice by the Government to step away from accountability.
The Express contacted Robinson-Regis yesterday and asked what would be the Opposition’s position if Government members refused to sit with Opposition Senators Faris Al-Rawi and Janelle John-Bates on parliamentary committees, given that Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles has not yet taken a decision on the matter.
Last week, the Joint Select Committee on National Security (JSC) was forced to adjourn after Energy Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal moved a motion requesting the removal of John-Bates from that committee, citing a conflict of interest arising from her assistance to former health minister Terrence Deyalsingh in the preparation of his witness statement for the Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC).
