‘Go big or go home’ - Energy expert cautions Guyana against 30,000 barrels per day oil refinery

(Kaieteur News) – As a new oil producer with a population of just about million people, Guyana is looking to enter a bold new market and meet its own energy demands locally through an oil refinery.

President Irfaan Ali has set his eyes on a 30,000- barrels per day (bpd) facility but energy expert, Marta Jara is strongly suggesting that the country takes a different approach that could materially impact not just the 83,000 square miles country, but the demands of the world.

Jara, a non-resident Fellow of the Institute of the Americas and former President of Uruguay’s National Oil Company (ANCAP) and Shell Executive has suggested that Guyana considers a 300,000 or 500,000 bpd refinery.
