T&T’s ef­forts to re­vive the long-stalled Drag­on gas deal have reached a de­ci­sive turn­ing point, with Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar ex­press­ing her will­ing­ness to per­son­al­ly trav­el to Venezuela to ini­ti­ate ne­go­ti­a­tions.

How­ev­er, de­spite this diplo­mat­ic over­ture and a green light from Wash­ing­ton via an Of­fice of For­eign As­sets Con­trol (OFAC) li­cense, Cara­cas re­mains un­re­spon­sive.

Ex­perts warn that for any mean­ing­ful progress to be made, the Prime Min­is­ter must adopt a more con­cil­ia­to­ry tone and demon­strate the hu­mil­i­ty need­ed to re­build trust and re­set strained bi­lat­er­al re­la­tions.
