Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles has described the killing of a municipal police officer inside a police station and the disappearance of firearms from its strong room as evidence of a “national crime crisis.”
In a statement issued yesterday, Beckles said the country had awoken to “one of the most tragic and terrifying revelations in recent history” following the death of Acting Corporal Anusha Eversley at the San Fernando Municipal Police Station.
“This heinous act has shaken the very foundation of public safety and raises a deeply troubling question—if our law enforcement officers are not safe within the walls of a police station, then where in Trinidad and Tobago is truly safe?” Beckles said.
