An in­ves­ti­ga­tion is un­der­way af­ter in­trud­ers broke in­to the Mal­ick Sec­ondary School com­pound dur­ing the ear­ly hours of Sun­day.

The Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion con­firmed that a group of uniden­ti­fied in­di­vid­u­als un­law­ful­ly en­tered the premis­es and re­port­ed­ly am­bushed two on-du­ty se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cers. The mat­ter has been re­ferred to both su­per­vi­so­ry per­son­nel and the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS).

Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion Dr Michael Dowlath said the min­istry was work­ing with the TTPS, MTS Se­cu­ri­ty Ser­vices and oth­er agen­cies to sup­port the in­ves­ti­ga­tion. In the mean­time, steps are be­ing tak­en to strength­en the school’s se­cu­ri­ty in­fra­struc­ture, in­clud­ing im­proved perime­ter fenc­ing, en­hanced light­ing, and a re­view of pa­trol pro­to­cols.
