National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) president Surujdeo Mangaroo emphasised unity, appreciation and preservation of culture as he opened the annual nine-night Divali Nagar in Chaguanas on Friday.
In his opening address, Mangaroo did not directly address board resignations, sponsorships, or the Prime Minister’s criticism of the NCIC. Instead he emphasised cooperation and voluntary service that are required to stage the annual cultural celebration.
“Divali Nagar does not happen by chance. It happens because people give their time, their energy and their hearts to something bigger than themselves and I would like to publicly thank my elected board of directors for their support and loyalty,” he said.
