Fireworks banned at Divali Nagar

Divali Nagar 2026 promises a modernised celebration, including a ban on the sale of fireworks and a “surprise” on closing night that the National Council for Indian Culture (NCIC) has vowed will delight the national community.

This year’s nine-night Nagar festival was launched at the NCIC’s Chaguanas headquarters yesterday, where president Dr Surujdeo Mangaroo underscored the appeal of the event to people from all over Trinidad and Tobago.

However, the Council has this year decided on celebrations that can be enjoyed by the wider community, and has announced a ban on fireworks at the festival.
