Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander has denied any effort by the Government to suppress evidence, including video footage, in police-involved incidents.
However, Alexander “strongly” advised the public that video footage under such circumstances should be first submitted to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).
He was responding to questions in the Senate yesterday from Opposition Senator Melanie Roberts-Radgman, who asked, “in light of the minister’s utterances to the media, following the fatal police shooting of Joshua Samaroo, that something needs to be done in relation to placing the footage of police-involved incidents into the public domain, is it the Government’s intention to introduce legislation prohibiting, regulating or otherwise altering the public’s ability to release, share or publish such footage?”.
