Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander says police officers must also be recognised as victims after violent confrontations.
He insisted yesterday, that people’s judgments on police-involved shootings must be left to the courts and not shaped by public pressure.
Speaking at a United National Congress (UNC) news conference in Chaguanas, Alexander said law enforcement officers operated daily in increasingly dangerous environments and were often exposed to trauma, threats and life-or-death decisions, while carrying out their duties. Against that backdrop, he emphasised that investigations into police actions must follow established legal procedures.
