India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, will begin an official two-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago today, during which several initiatives and exchanges are expected to take place, including the handover of laptops and the launch of a National Prosthetics Programme in Penal alongside Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Speaking at the post-Cabinet news conference yesterday, Foreign and Caricom Affairs Minister Sean Sobers said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited T&T in July last year, during which several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed, and Jaishankar’s visit would ensure those agreements are “concretised”.
Sobers said the governments of T&T and India were moving ahead according to the timeline agreed upon last year and would continue strengthening bilateral relations, with further talks expected to open doors for additional opportunities.
