49 farmers to gain occupancy as Government tackles longstanding agricultural land issues in Reg 5

– approximately 5000 acres of land being developed for cattle production

The Government of Guyana, through the Agriculture Ministry, is taking decisive steps to resolve longstanding agricultural land issues in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) while simultaneously expanding the productive land base, strengthening agricultural infrastructure and creating greater opportunities for farmers to increase production.

The interventions were highlighted on Saturday by subject Minister Zulfikar Mustapha during an engagement with farmers and residents of Shieldstown and surrounding communities, where a number of longstanding concerns relating to agricultural land, drainage and irrigation, access roads, livestock production, financing, and farmers’ livelihoods were raised.
