With an anĀnuĀal avĀerĀage alĀloĀcaĀtion of $945 milĀlion, the MinĀistry of AgriĀculĀture still falls beĀlow the $1 bilĀlion threshĀold that T&T FarmĀersā Union exĀecĀuĀtive memĀber ShiĀraz Khan says would demonĀstrate genĀuine conĀcern for the secĀtor, warnĀing that anyĀthing less in the 2026 budĀget would sigĀnal inĀdifĀferĀence by the State.
Khan told Guardian MeĀdia yesĀterĀday he hopes the GovĀernĀment lisĀtened to citĀiĀzens durĀing its conĀsulĀtaĀtions and acts on their recĀomĀmenĀdaĀtions. A vetĀerĀan farmer, he urged greater inĀvestĀment in agriĀculĀture to cut the counĀtryās growĀing food imĀport bill and imĀprove pubĀlic health.
He stressed that farmĀers are not seekĀing handĀouts but esĀsenĀtial reĀforms, inĀcludĀing the reĀpair of agriĀculĀturĀal roads, seĀcure land tenure and stronger proĀtecĀtion against praeĀdiĀal larĀceĀny.
