PORT OF SPAIN Mayor Chinua Alleyne is cautioning that a 40% budget cut could disrupt key services in the city for Carnival 2026.
In a release yesterday, Alleyne said the Port of Spain corporation has not received the funds needed to maintain critical public services during Carnival festivities. He further called for a restoration of the budget.
'Recent deep cuts to the City's budget means that the City has been given no recurrent funding to carry out its responsibilities for Carnival 2026. The Goods and Services budget for the City has been cut by over 40% between FY2025 and FY2026, amounting to a cut of almost $20M,' he said.
