THE Energy Chamber of Tri­nidad and Tobago welcomes the Point Lisas steel plant, noting that it highlights opportunities for jobs and local contractors, and presents an opportunity to position Trini­dad and Tobago as a pro­du­cer of vanadium.

In response to the Express yesterday, the Energy Chamber stated that it “welcomes yesterday’s (Monday’s) ribbon-cutting marking the reopening of the former Point Lisas steel mill, now opera­ting as Ibis Steel Company of T&T Ltd, a local subsidiary of the US-based Pinnacle Steel and Vanadium Corporation.

“The plant, which closed in 2016 with the loss of 644 jobs, is expected to restore that direct employment over time, along with additional indirect opportunities across the Point Lisas Industrial Estate and its supply chain.
