Several civil society organisations have issued a call to action condemning United States military strikes in Venezuela and the reported capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, urging Trinidad and Tobago citizens to mobilise in defence of regional sovereignty and peace.
In a statement circulated on Saturday, the groups described the U.S. military action as an illegal act of aggression and a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. They argued that the strikes confirmed long-held warnings that the U.S. military buildup in the region was aimed at regime change rather than combating drug trafficking.
The organisations accused the United States of breaching Venezuela’s sovereignty and undermining the Caribbean’s long-standing principle as a Zone of Peace, warning that the action places all Caribbean and Latin American nations at risk.
