Before 47-year-old Tara Lochansingh was swept away in the Matura River on Friday, she made the ultimate sacrifice and pushed her only grandchild to safety.

The five-year-old clung to some bamboo, even as efforts to rescue her beloved grandmother failed.

For nearly 24 hours, the family maintained hope that Lochansingh would be rescued. But their hope was crushed when her body was pulled from the river yesterday, shortly before noon.
