Close to 170 thousand citizens in Trinidad and Tobago are expected to benefit from an increase in their social assistance grants, which will take effect from January 1st 2027.
Minister of Finance Davendranath Tancoo, during his budget presentation in the Lower House on Monday, said the Government’s goal is to rebalance the economy while ensuring that vulnerable citizens are not left behind. As part of that commitment, he announced an increase in the Senior Citizens’ Grant, marking the first adjustment to the benefit in 12 years.
“Today, this Kamla Persad-Bissessar government would increase the Senior Citizens Grant by $250 per month, putting more money into the pockets of 124,000 senior citizens. That is performance.”
