Hundreds of people dressed in white and carrying candles took to the streets on Friday night, sending a united message against the gun violence that has claimed five lives in the community in recent weeks.

About 300 residents and supporters from surrounding communities participated in the Walk for Peace and candlelight vigil, organised by community leaders, concerned residents and police officers seeking a return to the peace the village once enjoyed.

Young and elderly participants walked side by side through the community as music from a sound truck and the rhythmic beating of African drums accompanied the procession. There was also a strong police presence, with senior and junior officers escorting the walkers, directing traffic, and monitoring the procession as it moved through the main streets.
