The Ministry of Homeland Security’s Counter Trafficking Unit (CTU) has issued a statement addressing a Trinidad and Tobago Guardian article published July 26, titled “Confessions of a Former Human Trafficker: Alex Philip Recounts Smuggling Women into T&T,” and an accompanying video interview that has since generated significant public concern.

In the statement, released Friday, the CTU said the allegations described in the publication are serious. While it noted it is unable to comment on the accuracy of statements made by individuals through the media, the Unit assured the public that the information contained in the publication has not been ignored.

According to the CTU, the matter has been brought to the attention of the appropriate authorities, and the information contained in the article and interview is being reviewed to determine what investigative or other action may be required.
