The North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) says it has successfully completed major electrical upgrade works at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC).
The project involved installing a new transformer on the facility’s electrical grid to operate alongside the existing one, a move the NCRHA said would reduce risks of power failure or electrical loss that could leave the hospital vulnerable.
To maintain patient safety and minimise disruptions, the authority developed contingency plans, rescheduled outpatient clinics and elective surgeries, and diverted radiology services such as CT scans, X-rays, MRIs, and ultrasounds to the Arima General Hospital and Mt Hope Women’s Hospital.
