The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) assures the public that the national electricity grid remains stable, following a significant voltage dip experienced across parts of the country at approximately 9:45 am today, Wednesday, June 10th, 2026.

The incident stemmed from an intrusion and attempted vandalism at the Commission’s Brechin Castle 220/132/66 kV Substation, where the perpetrator came into contact with a 132 kV breaker. The contact caused a fault, resulting in a significant voltage dip. Widespread outages were prevented because the system’s protective mechanisms operated as intended and minimised the impact.

Security footage showed that, having received an electric shock, the intruder fell to the ground, apparently stunned. He subsequently got to his feet and escaped without his tools. He was apprehended shortly thereafter and was taken for medical treatment for severe burns.
