A 23-year-old mechanic from Affiance, Essequibo Coast, has been granted bail after appearing in court on a charge of sexual assault. Saif Mohamed appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where he was charged with the offence of sexual assault, contrary to Section 43 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
The charge alleged that Mohamed sexually assaulted a female on July 6, at the No. 1 Cricket Ground, Affiance, Essequibo Coast. The charge was read to the defendant, who was not required to enter a plea. The prosecutor applied the Administration of Justice Act (AJA), following which Mohamed denied the allegation. Magistrate Mohabir granted Mohamed $50,000 bail on the condition that he has no contact with the virtual complainant and remains at least 100 feet away from her while the matter is before the court.
The case was adjourned to July 28.
