Victor Roberts, a former United National Congress (UNC) Alderman who for years ran a “shadow” activism campaign that rivalled the Opposition People’s National Movement (PNM) in areas it once considered strongholds, has confirmed his defection from the ruling party.
Roberts said yesterday he applied for and received PNM membership earlier this year.
Speaking to the Express one day after he was seen at the PNM’s Sports and Family Day in St Clair on Sunday, the Siparia Borough Corporation Alderman told the Express the decision was years in the making. He claimed that after voicing dissent over the state of the UNC’s membership, he had been offered numerous positions by its leadership, including a position on an energy company board.
