Lieutenant Colonel Eon Murray, attached to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), has completed the United Kingdom’s (UK) Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC) Number Twenty-Nine at the UK Defence Academy. The 46-week ACSC is a postgraduate programme that prepares military officers and civilian participants for senior appointments within the defence and security environment. The course covered operational art, strategy, leadership, staff work, and defence management. It also developed participants’ ability to analyse complex issues, make informed decisions and communicate effectively. Lieutenant Colonel Murray completed the course alongside military officers, civilian participants, and international partners from 47 other nations, including Albania, Canada and Saudi Arabia. As part of the academic component, delivered in collaboration with King’s College London, he earned a Master of Arts in Defence Studies, with a focus on Global International Affairs. The course provided exposure to joint and inter-agency coordination, ethics, accountability and the relationship between military activity and national policy. Scenario-based training and joint exercises further enabled participants to apply these principles in practical settings. Lieutenant Colonel Murray brings extensive command and staff experience to his new qualification. His previous appointments within the GDF include Commanding Officer of the Training Corps and Adjutant General.
He also holds an undergraduate degree in Public Management from the University of Guyana (UG) and a postgraduate degree in Leadership and Innovation from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His qualification adds to the GDF’s pool of officers with advanced command, staff and strategic expertise. The knowledge and experience gained through the course will support the Force’s work in policy development, modernisation, command and staff functions, and professional military education. Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan and the officers and ranks of the GDF have extended their congratulations to Lieutenant Colonel Murray on this milestone achievement.
