The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is conducting its Skill-at-Arms Course (SAAC) 2026-01 at the Colonel John Clarke Military School (CJCMS), Tacama, with participation from the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF). The six-week course commenced on July 16 and includes 42 Junior and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers from various GDF units, along with one participant from the ABDF.
According to the GDF, the programme is aimed at strengthening participants’ proficiency in the use of small arms and platoon weapons while equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to serve as coaches for Stage 1-5 Battle Shot training. The training includes practical instruction, weapons handling and marksmanship exercises, with participants expected to be able to transfer the skills gained to personnel within their respective units. The GDF said the participation of a member of the ABDF also provides an opportunity for the two forces to exchange knowledge, experience and best practices.
The engagement, according the GDF, is expected to support professional development while strengthening military cooperation between Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda. The Force said the continued development of a proficient and adaptable military remains central to its operational readiness and its ability to fulfil its mandate. It added that SAAC 2026-01 contributes to that objective while advancing interoperability and strengthening professional military relationships with regional partners.
