THE man attacked during Saturday’s brawl at Maracas Beach has a years-long reputation for bullying, according to business owners. While proprietors of Livin Trini Beach Rentals and Trendsetter Beach Rentals have condemned the violence, they believe the incident was an act of retaliation. One employee involved in the fracas has since been dismissed, and concerns have been raised about people’s livelihoods since the incident.
In a video circulating on social media over the weekend, several men were seen beating one man on the popular beach destination. However, on Monday, Senior Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne said the footage of the fight can only be used to charge those involved for “fighting in a public place”.
Responding to views expressed on social media that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) should use the video to bring justice to the man who was beaten, Guy-Alleyne said it does not work that way, and called on the man who was beaten to file a report to the police.
