Would social media restrictions on children work in Trinidad and Tobago? In Australia, children under 16 are now banned from logging on to several social media platforms, including TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, Threads, Reddit, Twitch, and Kick.
However, WhatsApp, YouTube Kids and Google Classroom are not restricted. Some critics of the legislation have questioned why online gaming platforms such as Roblox and Discord have been left out and are calling for the ban to be broadened.
Apart from not being able to set up accounts on the restricted platforms, those with existing accounts will be deactivated.
