The MV Knidos M, the largest vessel to date to transit beneath the Bharat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge (BJDRB), successfully passed under the structure on Tuesday.
According to the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), the Panama-registered Handymax bulk carrier completed the transit without incident, demonstrating the bridge’s ability to safely accommodate larger vessels navigating the Demerara River.
The vessel stands 48 metres (m) high and has an air draft of 4m. It measures 186.45m in length overall (LOA), has a breadth of 30m, a gross tonnage of 25,327, and a deadweight capacity of 42,000 tonnes.
