The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) has granted a stay of extradition proceedings involving Guyanese businessmen Nazar Mohamed and Azruddin Mohamed, pending the determination of an application for special leave.
The ruling came during a case management conference (CMC) held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in the matter of Nazar Mohamed and Azruddin Mohamed v Minister of Home Affairs, Attorney General and Magistrate of Guyana.
Azruddin Mohamed, Guyana’s Leader of the Opposition, and his father Nazar Mohamed are the subjects of an extradition request made by the United States Government on October 30, 2025. The request seeks their surrender to face an 11-count indictment, including charges of conspiracy, mail and wire fraud, and money laundering.
