Guyana Opposition Leader, father lose appeal

Extradition proceedings have been allowed to continue against Guyana Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed and his father, Nazar Mohamed, after the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) on Wednesday dismissed an appeal brought by the men in relation to an October 2025 request by the United States to have them extradited.

Allegations of fraud and money laundering involving gold exports, bribery and tax evasion have been levied against the men.

The CCJ had granted an interim stay of the extradition pending a determination of the men’s appeal.
