(Kaieteur News) – Guyana’s top cop, Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken, has ordered an investigation into allegations that immigration ranks at Lethem, Region Nine, are accepting payments to facilitate the illegal movement of Cubans into Brazil through Guyana’s borders.
The allegations surfaced in a news article published by Big Smith News Watch, an online media entity.
In a statement following the publication, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said, “Given the serious nature of the allegations, Commissioner of Police Dr. Clifton Hicken has directed the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) to immediately launch an investigation to determine the circumstances and veracity of the claims made in the publication.”
