A LAVENTILLE man who had been charged with the brutal murders of a policewoman, her family, and a family friend more than 18 years ago walked out of court a free man yesterday after a High Court judge ruled that the evidence against him was inadmissible.
Justice Maria Busby Earle-Caddle delivered the ruling at the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain, bringing an end to the State’s case against 39-year-old Zwadie Gomez, one of two men originally charged in connection with the January 2007 killings.
Gomez, of Trou Macaque Road, had been jointly charged with Daniel Mendoza with the murders of WPC Elizabeth Sutherland, 47; her husband Ivan Sutherland, 48; their daughter Anika Sutherland 23; and family friend Kevin Serrette.
