THE Government of Trinidad and Tobago has yet to recognise Venezuelan interim president and regime loyalist Delcy Rodriguez, who was weeks ago sworn into her new role after President Nicolas Maduro was extracted from Caracas by the US military.
Instead, Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs Sean Sobers, during a United National Congress (UNC) party news conference yesterday, said the Government has taken note of “some degree of change” within the neighbouring country following Maduro’s ousting and was looking forward to seeing a democratic transition.
“Our diplomatic relations with the people of Venezuela remain intact. We are following certain protocols as it pertains to moving further in terms of those relations. At this stage, because of how sensitive those protocols are, I will not be able to comment on those discussions,” he said.
