Seamen and Waterfront Workers Trade Union (SWWTU) president Michael Annisette says port workers remain dissatisfied despite receiving 20% of their outstanding backpay in July, as more than $330 million is still tied up in outstanding payments and negotiations.
Annisette said the issue was not about the union’s political support, but about workers who have been earning salaries based on 2014 rates while facing rising costs.
“The issue is that Seamen and Waterfront Workers Trade Union is not about support or non-support,” he said during an interview on TV6’s Morning Edition programme yesterday.
