(Kaieteur News) – In a tense court session marked by more than two hours of legal arguments, Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday maintained bail for Leader of the Opposition Azruddin Mohamed, rejecting another prosecution application to have his pretrial release revoked.
The hearing centred on arguments over the interpretation of the Bail Act, allegations of witness intimidation, and whether pending investigations constitute sufficient grounds to deprive an accused person of their liberty.
This is the third time the prosecution has failed in its efforts to have Mohamed’s bail revoked. In November 2025, the prosecution was represented by special prosecutors, Jamaicans Herbert McKenzie and Terrence Williams, who objected to bail. In September 2026, Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman also refused to revoke Mohamed’s bail, ruling that the court could not interfere with an accused person’s liberty based on mere allegations without concrete evidence.
