(Kaieteur News) – The mother of Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed has approached the High Court seeking to have the decision refusing him bail be overturned, while raising allegations of apparent bias against the magistrate who ordered his remand among other procedural issues.
Bonita Mohamed, acting as her son’s next friend, has filed an urgent Fixed Date Application in the High Court’s Constitutional and Administrative Division, naming the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Magistrate Abigail Gibbs and the Attorney General as respondents.
The application, filed on November 2, by Mohamed’s lawyers: Senior Counsel, Roysdale Forde, Siand Dhurjon and Damien Da Silva seeks an order of certiorari to quash Magistrate Gibbs’ October 30 decision refusing Mohamed bail and remanding him to prison. It also asks the High Court to grant him reasonable bail pending the hearing and determination of his trial.
