(Kaieteur News) – In an extraordinary courtroom exchange during bail proceedings for Azruddin Mohamed, Prosecutor Glen Hanoman dropped a bombshell allegation, accusing former and current governments of taking bribes from the Mohamed family for decades to shield them from prosecution. The claims emerged as Hanoman attempted to explain to the court why serious criminal investigations, including a years-long murder inquiry into Ricardo Fagundes, had previously stalled.
Addressing Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman, Hanoman asserted that the defendant’s ability to evade law enforcement scrutiny for years was not due to a lack of evidence, but rather the result of systemic political corruption and bribery that has only recently begun to unravel.
“What has happened… is that underlying all of this conduct is a very effective corruption,” Hanoman declared before the courtroom. Hanoman argued that this underlying influence directly explained why Mohamed had allegedly never been questioned or arrested in connection with major offenses in the past, “all his conduct has an underlying of bribery and corruption and he is being exposed now because he is no longer being protected. He has for decades bribed governments. It’s not that he is being victimised, that’s why he has never been charged before”.
