President Christine Kangaloo has proclaimed the opening of Parliament this Friday.
In the proclamation document, it was stated that, as provided by subsection (1) of section 67 of the Constitution, "Now, therefore I, Christine Carla Kangaloo, President as aforesaid, do hereby appoint the Red House, Port of Spain, Trinidad, as the place at which the First Session of the Thirteenth Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago shall be held, and 1.30 p.m. on Friday the 23rd day of May, 2025, as the time at which the said Session will commence, with any Member, if necessary, attending a sitting virtually, while in Trinidad and Tobago, with the prior approval of the Speaker of the House of Representatives or the President of the Senate, in accordance with guidelines to be established."
This ceremonial opening will be historic, as for the first time in Trinidad and Tobago’s history, the country will have a female President, Prime Minister and Opposition Leader serving simultaneously in leadership roles. All three are expected to deliver speeches.
