BIGWU elects first female president

Deb­bie-Ann Ot­t­ley has made his­to­ry as the first woman to be elect­ed pres­i­dent of the Bank­ing, In­sur­ance and Gen­er­al Work­ers Union (BIG­WU).

Ot­t­ley was elect­ed fol­low­ing the vic­to­ry of Team Mo­men­tum in the union’s elec­tions for the 2026 to 2030 term.

Her elec­tion marks a new chap­ter for BIG­WU, with Ot­t­ley pledg­ing to fo­cus on stronger rep­re­sen­ta­tion, im­proved com­mu­ni­ca­tion with mem­bers and branch­es, ef­fec­tive col­lec­tive bar­gain­ing and the time­ly han­dling of griev­ances and trade dis­putes.
