The Oil­fields Work­ers’ Trade Union (OW­TU) of­fi­cial­ly in­stalled its new­ly elect­ed Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee on Sat­ur­day with An­cel Ro­get at the helm for an­oth­er three years. The in­stal­la­tion, which took place dur­ing the union's Gen­er­al Coun­cil meet­ing, fol­lowed un­op­posed nom­i­na­tions held on 10 Feb­ru­ary 2025.

In a re­lease by the OW­TU, the union not­ed the in­stal­la­tion oc­curred just five days af­ter the 50th an­niver­sary of Bloody Tues­day. On 18 March 1975, oil and sug­ar work­ers from the OW­TU, the All Trinidad Sug­ar and Gen­er­al Work­ers Union (ATS­G­WU), and the Trans­port and In­dus­tri­al Work­ers Union (TI­WU) were tear­gassed, beat­en, and ar­rest­ed while march­ing for peace, bread, and jus­tice. Ab­du­lah high­light­ed the im­por­tance of re­mem­ber­ing that day as part of the on­go­ing strug­gle for work­ers’ rights.
