A 45-year-old man in custody at the Besson Street Police Station was hospitalised twice within 12 hours after deliberately injuring himself while being held in a cell.
The prisoner of Four Roads, Cuthbert Circular, Diego Martin, had been charged for being found on enclosed premises and was lodged in the station’s detention area on Friday.
According to police, around 10p.m., officers were alerted by banging noises coming from the cell block. The prisoner was found striking his head repeatedly against the cell bars, causing visible bleeding. Officers intervened and prevented further harm.
