The government is investing billions of dollars in dedicated truck parking facilities and auto zones at Golden Grove and Enmore as it moves to take heavy-duty vehicles and commercial activities off public roads and away from residential communities.
Housing and Water Minister Collin Croal said the facilities are intended to provide truck operators with designated spaces to park, service and repair their vehicles, while allowing activities such as bodywork and spray painting to be conducted away from homes.
The first phase of the Golden Grove truck parking facility on the East Bank Demerara has been completed following the development of approximately 12 acres of land, at an estimated cost of $500 million.
