The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) is advising the public to take precautions due to elevated Saharan dust levels affecting Trinidad and Tobago.
While particulate matter data is temporarily unavailable on the EMA’s website and social media platforms because of ongoing maintenance and critical upgrades to its air quality monitoring equipment, other reliable local monitoring systems are reporting increased dust concentrations consistent with significant Saharan dust activity across the region. The influx has resulted in visibly hazy conditions and reduced air quality.
As a result, members of the public, particularly older adults, young children, pregnant women, and individuals with heart disease, asthma, other respiratory conditions, or allergies, are urged to take precautions.
