(Kaieteur News) – Former Region Four Chairman and current National Border Patrol Coordinator, Daniel Seeram, will avoid immediate prison time after receiving a suspended 13-month sentence at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the physical assault of his ex-wife, Farzana Hamid.
Magistrate Abigail Gibbs delivered the ruling following Seeram’s conviction on October 2, 2026, for assault causing actual bodily harm. The charge stemmed from a September 11, 2023, incident at the couple’s former shared apartment in Cummings Lodge, Georgetown. Following his conviction last month, Seeram was remanded to prison to await sentencing. Subsequent emergency attempts by his legal team to secure bail were turned down when High Court Judge Justice Joy Persaud-Singh upheld the remand order, finding it neither unlawful nor irrational.
Handing down the sentence, Magistrate Gibbs established a starting point of 24 months imprisonment. However, she deducted 10 months in consideration of Seeram’s prior clean criminal record, established record of service to the state, and a favorable probation report.
