A fire destroyed a ground-floor apartment at a two-storey dwelling on Wednesday morning, leaving a 27-year-old woman displaced but unharmed.
Police said officers from the Couva Police Station responded around 11 a.m. on to a report of a dwelling house on fire at Martha Street, Lisas Boulevard. The report was received via the Command Centre while officers were on mobile patrol.
On arrival, officers observed that the lower-floor apartment had been completely destroyed. Enquiries revealed that the occupant had been cooking in her kitchen around 10 a.m. when she heard unusual noises, later identified as sparking electrical wires. She went to her bedroom area, where she discovered her closet engulfed in flames.
