National awardee Dr Allen Sammy said he felt elated, honoured and humbled yesterday.

Speaking to the Express in the lead-up to the awards ceremony at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s, Sammy said the Public Service Medal of Merit (Gold) was unexpected.

He explained that while a group from Penal told him they were going to nominate him for a national award, he did not think much of it, and he continued his life of ­service.
