Dr Allan McKenzie, the long-serving and transformational principal of Naparima College, has died at the age of 92.
McKenzie, who led the San Fernando school from 1966 to 1993, is widely credited with transforming Naparima College into one of South Trinidad’s leading secondary institutions and a premier national boys’ college. In recognition of his legacy, the school’s Science Block was renamed in his honour in 2023.
Born into a family of educators, McKenzie was an early champion of discipline, reading, and education for national development. He rejected curricula detached from local realities and believed education should shape character, leadership, and service to country.
